Building a business

Founded on the basic principles of organization, value, cleanliness, and friendliness, Belmark began in 1977 with just three employees; founder Bruce Bell, a press operator, and an accountant. With only one five-color press in a 2,500-square-foot space on Dickinson Road in De Pere, Wisconsin, Bell relied on his past sales experience and quickly learned what it took to build a solid customer base. Offering efficiency, enthusiasm, and service, new customers became accustomed to quick turnaround times, with an invoice occasionally reaching them even before the finished project was delivered. Within the first year, the company grew to more than six figures in sales, and a successful pressure-sensitive label printing company was established.

As Belmark began adding customers on a national scale, we were not only able to expand our facility but also our services, adding folding cartons and flexible packaging capabilities. Developing and utilizing web-based programs allowed us to service customers better, increase internal efficiency and—yet again—accelerate production turnaround. Today, Belmark continues to grow, with sales reaching more than $120 million and over 450 employees.
